Album Cover Ideas

Paul
Ideas

A photo of the band using the cut-out effect: Would probably look better if manually edited in this style - cartoony, bright colours, easy to add other unrealistic aspects (rainbow, sun etc.)

All band members in a silhouette, playing on the black and white theme of their clothes, the lines highlight their faces, the title of the band/album could be in a red stylised font over the picture.

An idea which plays with colour, reflecting the black and white motif which is recurrent in our band's image, as well as the album title. Colour is used widely throughout our music video also, and the cut-out effect used on the background makes the band members stand out as if superimposed onto the picture.

Another variation on the colour theme with a different pattern and font.

Less focus on colour, a more simple design. The character on the front would not have to be someone from the video, with the idea playing more on the band name (as in the shocking discovery of a super phenomenon).

Inspiration

Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
A colourful, cartoony and simple cover, with obvious contrast between the black and white background and various objects at the centre. The band name and album name is not the central focus, being placed in the top left corner.

Just thought I'd make a post for us all to put ideas/inspiration for possible album covers.

Feedback from Test Screening

We burned a version of our project that we were happy with to DVD, then played it to some other media students in order to get feedback on the good points, and also on what we could improve.

Good points

The colourised shots are aesthetically pleasing
The 'craziness' makes it fun to watch
It cuts well to the beat, creating a good pace and rhythm
The judges shots are consistent and well-placed

Constructive Criticisms

Problem: Need more judges shots at the end
Solution: We decided that as some people liked the placing of the judges shots, we would leave this.

Problem: The Music Channel syle title is on screen for too long
Solution: We shortened the time it was on screen by reducing the number of shots it's over by one

Problem: Ending comes too quickly
Solution: We slowed down the music slightly, allowing the final shot to be on screen for about 1 second longer

Problem: Flashes at end a bit out of time
Solution: We watched it through at half speed and made the flashes fit better with the drum beats

Problem: 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence is hard to see as the colours are too overpowering
Solution: We increased saturation and contrast and made the colours less strong

Problem: The 2 and the 3 in the 1,2,3,4 sequence are too similar
Solution: We changed the order so that green and yellow were not next to each other

Editing suggestions

Judges -> Colour replace so that everything in the foreground has its original colour but everything in the background is greyscale. Looks better than desaturating the whole shot
Running-> Posterised?
Posterise-> Better when you can't tell it's there
Colour-> Good in the later shots

Record Company Ideas

Record Company:
- LondonParis productions (LP Productions)

Prototype of a Logo

Ideas:
- Use of red white and blue, because it appears on both the French and the British flags.
- LondonParis - French and English, same as the singing in the song
- Abbreviated to LP, which is also another name for a record

Target Audience

Primary Audience:
Both genders, ages (10-40): The song is light-hearted and fun, with a strong beat, so it would appeal to people of a wide age range, without limiting itself to any particular level of society. It's easily accessible and everyone who listens to it can take something from it for their own enjoyment.

Secondary Audience:
Expanding the audience further: Children and adults beyond the approximate age ranges mentioned. As this song is so quirky it is likely that people of all ages will enjoy it, but these age ranges are not as likely to go out and purchase the album/watch the music video.

Tastes and Attitudes:
Alternative: The song does not confine itself to any particular music genre, (pop, indie, rock, r'n'b), allowing people with widely varying music taste to like it. I would say that the more extreme the music taste, the less likely they are to listen to something outside of their comfort zone, ie. heavy metal or avid r'n'b/rap fans. It is at it's core a light-hearted song, so people of a generally more positive disposition are more likely to enjoy it then others.

Other media they may consume:
A wide range of music: Alternative, pop, indie, rock, r'n'b, garage, dance
Internet: YouTube, Myspace, Facebook, alternative music sites
Television: Music channels, comedy

What function does this kind of music serve:
To be enjoyed by a wide range of people, to make them feel good, to cheer people up.

Critical Re-shoot List

Track towards judges coughing - as its not very smooth

Ezzine eye pan - shaky

The shots of characters switching instruments- slightly tilt from on and anouther, doesnt smoothly cut

More Character shots during the slow motion part - not quite enough footage.
